COVID. Pandemic. These words can stir a range of emotions/thoughts rather quickly. Pain. Loss. Fear. Isolation. Cancelled plans. Missed gatherings with loved ones. Lost jobs.
Despite having first-hand experience with despair brought on by the pandemic, God has given me a blessing I could never have imagined. While visiting Camp Crucis for the first time in July, I was standing near the Chapel of the Transfiguration when the Holy Spirit engulfed me. I immediately was overcome with the massiveness of the 163 acres entrusted to the Fort Worth Diocese and the vast needs of maintaining such a ministry.
A few days later, a friend and I visited Philip Craig, Director of Camp Crucis. Our goal was to tour the grounds & buildings and to offer to volunteer a few hours as needed. What we saw was an endowment from God that belongs to each one of us:
This ministry is a gift for every member of the Fort Worth Diocese. With gifts, come responsibilities. Camp Crucis is as much our mission as caring for our own church property. Camp Crucis needs our help NOW. Due to COVID, 2020 spring and fall retreats, as well as summer camps, were cancelled. Camp Crucis needs financial support to maintain their three employees, to care for the horses and to perform upkeep needed in preparation for 2021.
Are there blessings as a result of COVID? I say YES! My blessing is that God revealed to me the undertaking he had entrusted to the members of the Fort Worth Diocese and called me to share these needs and the blessings of “Our Camp” with all who believe that Camp Crucis is truly a mission From On High.
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace…
